Disconnections

It’d be difficult to believe that you were never in a situation like this: You’re playing a match of nearly any game and your team’s performance isn’t the best. You can probably come back from it, but there’s at least one person getting upset. They decide to say a rude remark and leave, putting your team at a disadvantage in numbers and allowing them to play another match or even without any penalty for abandonment! This leads us to our latest point of discussion…

How should Planet of Heroes handle players disconnecting from games?

To be more precise, we want to know what your ideas are regarding players leaving the game, players losing connection, and if any penalties should be applied. For example, allowing or even forcing players to reconnect back to the same game if they leave is a method used by some MOBAs. We're aiming to provide a great solution to parts of this issue by replacing the disconnected player with an AI, a computer controlled unit until the player comes back. But what if someone rage quits? What should happen to them?

Keep this line of thought in your head and let us know what you think!

replacing the disconnected player with an AI is a must have feature. Since the reconnecting is so fast, it would be better to give a limit time for reconnecting ( for example 1 min). Otherwise the player should be punished (reduce rank points/ban for a short time and etc.)

I dont think its a good idea to replace dc with a bot since bots die so easly that they rather give an adventage to the opponents than help the team. And since the servers are sometimes bit laggy then player must relog. Bot can die even 2 times in a minute from my experience.

I agree, replacing player by ai controller is not good idea. Maybe lvl up for the team that loose a teammate or stronger minions on the line, but not ai) And once again, in my own opinion the game must start when the last(!) player have finished his loading, not first. Everybody have different devices. And those who "done" first had a big advantage.

Kicking a random player from the other team would be fair :) No, just kidding. I don't know if it is possible to differentiate between players who leave a game due to connection problems and players who leave the game on purpose, e.g. rage quit. Would be great because I think players who leave their team alone on purpose should be punished harder. Maybe even with loss of any currency. In any case they should only be able to log in to the same game they left until this game ends. Of course they should also bear the consequences (only the negative ones for losing) although they are no longer participating the game (if they are not logging back in immediately). Maybe this increases the willingness to turn the tide and try to bring the game to a happy end :)

I think replacing a player after he quits with an AI is a good idea, no offence to others suggestion. It's hard to differentiate between a rage quit and connection quit. But, being an early released game there are many connection quits than rage quits. It would also be a good match for the opponent and wouldn't reduce fun in playing. So, an AI bot is a must at this stage at least until the full release.

I agree with nutshell, to have a formula to balance experience or maybe strenght so 2 players are able to beat 3. No AI please

To think about that, replacing a dced player with an AI is the best option, since if the player will come back it will be pretty hard to get rid off the buff which 2 other teammates have got. I think improving the gameplay of the AI will be the best option possible

First abandon - 30 min queue block Subsequent abandons increase the time a player can't queue. Disconnected players replaced by AI. Disconnected players can rejoin. Abandon = Player who did not rejoined in a set time. As a side note: I would suggest sketching the base of this kind of functionalities by taking the best out of the most popular MOBAs and work from there. (A no brainer, lol)
